II Amla Murabba II


  • 450gms Amla (gooseberries)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1tsp. cardamom seeds(crushed)
  • 1/4th tsp. turmeric powder
  • 2-inch piece of cinnamon stick
  • 1/2 bay leaf


  • Wash and stem the amla .
  • Combine with water in a heavy saucepan and place over high heat.
  • When water starts boiling add sugar and stir constantly till sugar melts.
  • Reduce the heat to low and add remaining ingredients, and simmer until the amla's are clear and the juice gets thick, about 15 minutes.
  • Remove the whole spices.
  • Cool it to room temperature, transfer it to a glass jar and seal well.
  • Store, refrigerated, for up to 2 weeks.
