II   Black Beans Pappadams(Ural Daal ke Papad) II


  • 4 cups black bean (urad daal) powder
  • 1tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black peppercorns
  • A pinch of asafoetida powder
  • 1/2tsp white cumin seeds
  • A pinch of baking soda / powder
  • Ghee / oil to grease

Preperation :

  • Place all ingredients in a mortar and  pound thoroughly using a pestle or use an electric grinder.
  • Add enough water to make a stiff dough.
  • Divide the mixture into 16 portions. Roll out each one into a very thin round.
  • Spread them out on a greased plastic sheet to dry on both sides in the sun or warmest place in the house.
  • When dry store in a clean bag or covered container.
  • Deep-fry just before use.
