II   Matar-do-Piyaaza  II


  • 1 cup green peas
  • 4 large onions (thinly sliced)
  • 1 large onion for garnishing (thinly sliced)
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 brown cardamom
  • 6 black peppercorns
  • 2 green chilies (chopped)
  • 1tsp grated ginger
  • 2 medium tomatoes (quartered)
  • 2/3 rd cup curd / plain yogurt
  • 11/4th cup warm water
  • Salt to taste
  • 1tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 cup ghee
  • 1tbsp chopped coriander leaves

Preperation :

  • Heat the ghee in a saucepan and fry one onion until golden. Drain and reserve for garnishing.
  • Add the bay leaves, cardamom and peppercorns to the ghee in the pan and stir few times.
  • Keep the pan over a low heat.
  • Add the peas, chilies, tomatoes, grated ginger and remaining onions and stir thoroughly for about 5 minutes.
  • Pour in the curd, water and salt.
  • Cover, increase the heat to moderate and cook for about 20 minutes.
  • Sprinkle with the fried onions, garam masala and coriander
