Ganesh Chaturthi or Ganesh Utsav is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Ganesh (the elephant-headed God of Wisdom and Prosperity and the son of Lord Shiva and Ma Parvati). This festival falls on the fourth day (Chaturthi) of the bright fortnight of Bhadrapada month of the Hindu calendar around August-September. It is celebrated all across India and is the biggest festival in Maharashtra. Ganesh Chaturti is celebrated for a period of ten days. गणेश चतुर्थी पूजा (भाद्रपद शुक्ल चतुर्थी)
भाद्रपद शुक्ल चतुर्थी ही गणेश चतुर्थी कहलाती हैं । वैसे तो हर महिने की कृष्ण पक्ष की चतुर्थी को गणेश जी का पूजन व व्रत किया जाता है । परन्तु भाद्रपद शुक्ल चतुर्थी का विशेष महत्व है । इस द्न मध्यान्ह के समय गणेश जी का जन्म हुआ था । अत: इसे गणेश जन्मोत्सव के रुप में भी मनाया जाता है…………….. आगे पढ़े ।
गणेश चतुर्थी कथा
एक बार भगवान् श्री शंकर स्नान करने के लिए कैलाश पर्वत से भोगावती नामक स्थान पर
गए । उनके जाने के बाद माता पार्वती स्नान करते समय अपने शरीर के मैल से एक पुतला
बनाया तथा उसमें प्राण डाल दिए । उसका नाम उन्होने गणेश रखा ।
फिर पार्वती जी ने गणेश जी से एक मुद्गर लेकर दरवाजे पर जाकर तब तक पहरा देने के
लिए कहा जब तक वह स्नान ना कर लें …………….. आगे पढ़े ।
