Hindu calendar
Shivaratri
is great festival of convergence of Shiva and Shakti. Maas
Shivaratri or Masik Shivratri is celebrated in every month
according to Hindu lunar calender. Every month, it is celebrated
on the Chaturdashi Tithi during Krishna Paksha.
Lord Shiva is worshipped on this day and a
fast is kept in devotion of the lord. Maas Shivaratri when falls
on Tuesday becomes highly auspicious.Shivaratri in the month of
Magha is known as Maha Shivaratri according to
Amavasyant School. However according to Purnimant School
Shivaratri in month of Phalguna is known as Maha Shivaratri. Maha
Shivratri, the night of the worship of Lord Shiva, occurs on the
14th night of the new moon during the dark half of the month of
Phalguna.
